Furcal takes home NL weekly honors

07/06/2010 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending July 4.

The 32-year-old Dominican native led all of baseball last week with a .538 average (14-for-26), adding nine runs and 24 total bases in six games. He also led the National League with a .923 slugging percentage and was second in on- base percentage at .571.

Furcal wrapped up his week by going a blistering 9-for-14 with a homer and five runs scored against the rival San Francisco Giants.

Other nominees for the weekly award included New York Mets outfielder Jason Bay, Florida starter Ricky Nolasco, San Diego hurler Mat Latos and Cincinnati slugged Joey Votto.
