Heat finish hectic stretch in Indy
Basketball Betting Lines
02/14/2012 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Miami Heat try to continue one of their best starts in
team history this evening when they visit the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life
Fieldhouse.
Miami kept rolling on Monday, as LeBron James scored 35 points to lead the
Heat to a 114-96 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
James scored 16 of his 35 points in the third quarter, punctuating the effort
by racing past three defenders for a thunderous one-handed dunk that put the
NBA's second-leading scorer over 30 points for the first time in five games.
The Heat moved to 6-1 since their most recent loss to the Bucks on February 1
and are 2-0 on their tough back-to-back-to-back stretch of three road games in
three nights. They are 3-1 overall on a season-long six-game road trip.
"We took last night like it was its own game and we did the same thing
tonight," said James. "Now we move on to Indiana to close it out."
Staying in the win column may not be that difficult, as the Heat beat the
Pacers by 35 earlier in the year and have won three straight, seven of eight
and eight of the last 11 in the series. Miami has also won three in a row in
Indiana after losing 14 straight there.
Dwyane Wade has been particularly effective in Indiana of late, netting more
than 40 points in each of his last two visits there.
The Pacers lost their season-high third straight game on Saturday, falling to
the Denver Nuggets, 113-109.
Danny Granger led the way for the Pacers with 26 points and David West chipped
in 22 points and seven rebounds. A.J. Price scored 13 points off the bench for
a Pacers team that has now dropped four of their last five games.
"We played hard tonight. But they played a little harder and executed a little
better," said Price. "We know we can bounce back. We have not face this, this
year. But we know that we're up to it."

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Bet on NFL Football
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
